"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." – Victor Hugo
Each week brings a new wave of vinyl releases, and this week is no exception. From highly anticipated new albums to beloved classics reissued, these records are ready to be spun. Let’s take a closer look at the latest additions that are making waves in the vinyl community.
- SHHHHHHH! by King Krule: The double 7” vinyl consists of four previously unreleased flexi tracks, which marked the beginning of the Space Heavy campaign last year. These tracks were introduced alongside a series of underplayed gigs in Brooklyn, Amagansett, Paris, Berlin, and London, sparking significant excitement and enthusiasm among fans. This campaign generated considerable buzz, showcasing the band's ability to create a fervent response with their unique releases and intimate performances.
- So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star: On their second album, the band maintained a focus on blending country, folk, psychedelic, and classic rock elements, all enveloped in a sense of mystery. Hope Sandoval's distinctive, languid vocals were bathed in echo, creating their signature sound. The hit single “Fade Into You” brought Mazzy Star significant acclaim and commercial success.
- Stampede by Orville Peck: Orville Peck, known for his critical acclaim, has long aspired to create "Stampede," a duets album featuring singers, songwriters, and musicians he deeply admires. This vision has now come to life with his third full-length project. Music icons, rebels, and newcomers alike collaborate with Orville on this ambitious two-part record, celebrating the rich tapestry of music's past, present, and future. The first installment, "Stampede: Vol. 1," was released on May 10th, featuring duets with legends and rising stars such as Willie Nelson, Midland, Elton John, Allison Russell, Noah Cyrus, Bu Cuaron, and Nathaniel Rateliff.
- Overlay Reworks | Pt. 1 by Guentner | Spieth: For their collaborative album "Overlay," released last November, Markus Guentner and Joachim Spieth enlisted artist friends to create a series of reworks. The first part of these reworks is set to release in early May. In this collection, composer Hollie Kenniff and multi-instrumentalist/mastering engineer Rafael Anton Irisarri offer their unique interpretations of the track "Nukleus." Both artists bring their distinct styles to the reworks, adding new dimensions to the original composition.
- Midnight Zoo by Dice: Ben Hodge, Tom King, Regan Beazley, and Sam Barrett-Lennard welcome us into the unique world of DICE with their debut album 'Midnight Zoo,' an experience that listeners will find hard to leave. More than just an album, 'Midnight Zoo' is a sonic journey that reflects their whirlwind year of creativity. Fearlessly tackling complex themes, the album offers a genre-blending adventure that transitions seamlessly from the dancefloor to the early hours of dawn. Written, recorded, and produced at Tone City Records in their hometown of Perth, the album is a heartfelt tribute to their origins and band history. Aptly named 'Midnight Zoo' for its long nights, wild energy, and full moon recording sessions, the title perfectly encapsulates the essence of both the tracks and their creation process.
